Poetry / Online Class

L.I Create an Listing Poem about any topic.

For writing for we create list peoms. List poems mean's listing differnt things that links to th topic, as example How to make a firend?, my group create an poem listing differnt ideas on how you can make firends, I really enjoyed working on these as I know what Im doing, I understand what I need to do,I know how an List poem's structures as example an List poem uses only one word at the start of each sentinces, and had full stops and captail letters at each sentince. We did this by sharing our ideas and working collabortivtly and understanding how an list poem works, what it looks like and how you can write one.

Water safety lessons

L.I: To learn about how to be safe in the water

For Swimming we were continuing on learning about Water Safety, learning different strokes. We started off doing Streamline as a warm up, and continued doing different strokes. We then did strokes but these strokes helped us manage our breathing, and let us feel less tired. It also helped us lessen our head movement, and restrict your neck movement. It really helps, and another thing we did was starfish but we had to only kick to strengthen our calve muscle.

Fantastic fish | Mrs Linda group

 L.I: To summarise a text

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Summary

Fantastic fish use their gills to breathe underwater. They have three different fins to help them swim. These are the dorsal, pectoral and tail fin.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

For reading with Mrs Linda we read fantastic fish. It’s about different unique fish. Fiish have three different fins. They are the dorsal fin which keeps the fish from rolling over, the tail fin which pushes the fish forward and the pectoral fish which helps the fish steer.

Some interesting facts we found were that fish have three different types of fins. Mudskippers can live out of the water and a manta ray has a wingspan about 7 metres across.

We found this activity fun and interesting because we found out the different uses of the fins and there are some fish that don’t look like fish for example the seahorse and the mudskipper. This was an enjoyable activity.

Mindfullness Reflection #1

LI: to practice mindfulness when in stressful situations.

Mindfulness is training your mind to become aware of not only yourself, but also your surroundings. When it comes to mindfulness, there are two zones. The red zone and the green zone. The red zone is all the negative emotions you feel when stressed. The green zone is all of the positive emotions which help you when feeling stressed. For example, when in a stressful situation, you can clear your mind and stay calm. This is when your mind enters the green zone. In the red zone, you feel waves of negativity overcoming your mind.

When trying to focus, your mind wanders. Although your body can be present, your mind can be wandering around and thinking about the past or future. With mindfulness, you focus on the present moment and what is happening at that moment.

The mindfulness practice helps you clear your mind, focus on your breathing and overall makes you content and composed. To do this activity, we faced away from others to be focused. We had a straight back, soft stomach, closed eyes and our hands on our knees. When the mindfulness bell rang, we calmed ourselves and focused on our breathing. When breathing, you are more focused on you and your surroundings.

Topic 7: Osmosis and Transpiration

L.I: To learn the science of osmosis and transpiration. This week for science tech we looked into Osmosis and Transpiration. Osmosis is when water moves from the bottom of a plant to the top. Xylem which is a tiny cell in the plant helps the water move upwards. Transpiration is when the sunlight evaporates the water. A thing we learnt during this lesson was photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process where the plants creates the food. Its made by carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, sugar or glucose and oxygen.

Our activity was to find the xylem in a celery. First we pour 150 mls of water in a beaker and put ten drops of food colouring. Next we grab a celery and cut the end of the celery. Then we mix the celery into the food colouring water. After that we put the leaves of the celery in a bag and wait 30 minutes. After 30 minutes we open the bag and start cutitng the middle of the celery. Finally we look for the Xylem and take photos of it.

I found this activty fun because the xylem looks really cool with the food colouring. I also found the facts really interesting.

Matariki Brouchures

L.I: To stregnthen our connections with Matariki

Inside

Outside
This week for Matariki we created Matariki Brochures. The inside brochure shows the trandition and the clothing of Matariki. The photo in the middle shows Papatuanuku, the grandmother of the 6 sisters. A fun fact, Ururangi likes to race her sister to Papatuanuku and wrap her arms around herself. The outside brochure shows facts about the Matariki stars. It also explains about the Matariki celebration. A fun fact about Matariki is that it will get its public holiday on June 24th 2022. I found this activity fun because the facts I found were very interesting. I was also surprised because the public holiday announcment.

Matariki

L.I: To stengthen our connections to Matariki

Matariki is the Maori new year celebration. It takes places each year when the cluster of stars known as Matariki are seen in our skies. The new year is a time for new beginnings and is a time to embrace tradition.
To strengthen our connections to Matariki we had a choice of research activities. I found out that Tupu-a-rangi likes to sing for the forest and the children of Tane Mahuta and I also found out that Waipuna-a-rangi to the seas, lake and rivers. I enjoyed doing the Matariki stars because I like how my group and I created the stars.

Greek Gods

L.I: To use our smart searching skills to find information about the Greek gods

Today David shared his reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. We earn CARE award badges in year 7 and 8 to show that we understand our school values. In this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information to help us complete the table.

I found this activity interesing because I got to look into greek gods and goddess. I found all the information interesting.

The Greek god I found most interesting was Janus because he has the power to see the past and future and thats a power that I would like to have. Plus he has two faces which makes him look really unique and interesting.

Bravery

L.I: To edit our writing using DRAFT

DRAFT is a acronym that stands for:
D - Delete
R - Rearrange
A - Add
F - Fix
T - Talk
We used DRAFT to edit our poems. Me and my partner (Micah) created a poem about bravery. What we did was look for an abstract noun. A abstract noun is something that exist but you cannot touch it. In our poem we used the 5 senses which are see, touch, smell, hear and taste. We also created complex sentences. We added our puncuation includidng a comma and fullstop. We also used metaphors and similies.

After creating our poem we proof read it and edited the poem. We rearranged words, added words and deleted words. I found this activity fun because I got to hear everyones powerful poems. I also liked my one because I think me and Micah did a good job writing our poem.

Main Ideas

LI: To identify the main ideas in a text
For this task we watched a video about the story of how maui slowed the sun. From this video we had to pick the ideas in the video, the four main ideas in the story and the three main ideas of the story. The main idea is the point of a text, story, book, etc..

Forming an opinion

LI: To consider both perspectives

For this task we chose one of the seven places Maori in legends and looked at the evidence for the stories being real or not. After we have looked at the evidence we as a group were tasked to form an opinion about the place and if we think if the stories are real or not.

Summary

L.I to explain in fewer words what the text is about

A summary is a quick and short way to explain the main points of a story or text. For this activity we watched a Video about Rangi and Papa and their story. From the video we had to choose twenty important words from the story. Then we chose the six most important words and wrote a short summary that tells the reader what the story is about.

Venn Diagram Video/Text

L.I: Find as many similarities and diffrences as you can between the video and the text of "The Beginning"

For this task we compared the text “The beginning” and the video of rangi and papa’s story on a Venn Diagram. A venn diagram is used to show the similarities and differences between two or more things, the parts of the circle that overlap the other are for writing similarities and the parts that do not overlap are for writing the differences between the two things.

African Plain Safaris | Mrs Linda Reading

L.I: To summarise a text
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Summary
The African Plains Safari teems with abundant wildlife. You choose where you will explore on your adventure for an unforgettable holiday in Botswana in Africa.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

For Reading (with Mrs Linda) we read a text called African Plains Safaris. African Plains Safaris is mainly about the wildlife in africa. The story takes place in botswana. The text talks about the places in africa. One of the places are Deception Valley. A fun fact about deception valley is that 200 different species of birds populate deception Valley.

We found this activity interesting because we got to explore more information about the africa. The most interesting fact we found was that there is a hotel in deception valley. Another interesting fact we found was that there is places you can relax like at the hotel after you finish.

Where will you go to at the African Plains Safari?

  • Lake Ngami

  •  Deception Valley

  •  Passarge

  • Central Kalahari

  •  Deception Pan

  •  Piper’s Pan

  • Game Preserve

  •  Leopard Pan

Floating and Sinking | Science Tech

L.I: To test the buoyancy of different objects

For science tech we tested different objects to see their buoyancy. Buoyancy means how objects float or sink. We used objects like a wooden block, plastic block and more. We used a water bucket, ruler, different balls, different blocks and a digital scale. First we tested a tennis. The tennis ball semi-floated which means the tennis ball sunk and floated. The next ball we tested was a table tennis. The results for that was that the table tennis floated. The next object was a big marble and a small marble. They both sunk. After that we tested a golf ball. The golf ball sunk as well. Then we test a plastic block. The plastic block semi-float. There were 4 different sizes of wood block.  They all semi-floated. The final object was the polystyrene. The polystyrene floated.

I had fun with the activity. I also got surprised on how the objects reacted to the water.

Simple Machines

L.I: To read for meaning and understanding
L.I: To use smart searching skills

Simple machines are basic devices that is used to apply force. For inquiry we looked over simple machines. There were 6 main machines. Which are Pulley, Wedge, Screw, Inclined plane, Lever and Wheel and Axle. We researched those 6 machines and then we created a labelled diagram showcasing the simple machine. We had to create a summary that had 25 words to explain the simple machine.

The pulley is used to pull up objects. The wedge is used to block objects from moving. The screw is used to grab its surrondings and pull them in by moving in a circular motion. The inclined plane is a flat surface that is used to move an object up and down. Wheel and Axle is a machine that has two wheels attached to an axle. The Lever is used to lift objects up by pushing down on one side.

I found this activity interesting because I found the simple machines easy to research and summarise. It was also fun to create my own pulley.

Dialouge

L.I: To understand how to use and correctly puncate dialouge writing

For writing we created a dialouge. A diolouge is a conversation between characters. We read a text about the mother and the three little pigs and created the next five lines using a site called Ifaketextmessage. Its a site where you can create fake text messages. We used this to put our five lines. It looks like a conversation between two people. After that we took a screenshot and added it on our DLO. We explained what a dialouge is on our DLO. I found this activity quite fun because I got to play around with the ifaketextmessages site.

Trying out laboratory equipments | Tech

L.I: To try using laboratory equipments

Our topic for tech was trying out labortory equipments. In tech we used equipments in the lab and used it in a experiment. We did a cold and hot water experiement.

The cold water experiment: The first step is we did was we pour 100ml of water into a beaker. The next step is to get 10 grams of sugar and put it on a petri dish. After that the next step is to place the petri dish on a weighing machine. After that put the sugar into the cold water. We used a stopwatch and timed our partners to see how long it would take for the sugar to dissolve. For me and my partner it took us 1 minute and 31 seconds. The temperature of the cold water was 24 degrees celsius.

The hot water experiment: The first step is that you pour 100ml of water into a beaker. The next step is to get 10 grams of sugar and put it on a petri dish. After that we placed a petri dish on the weighing machine. After that we put the sugar into the hot water. We used a stopwatch to time our partner to see how long it would take for the sugar to dissolve. For me and my partner it took us 35 seconds. The temperature of the hot water was 81 degrees celsius.

I found this activity fun because I had fun using each equipment. I was also suprise on how fast the temparture

Do the robot | Mrs Linda Reading

L.I: To summarise a text
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
The robot is a type of dance that requires jerky movements and music with strong beats. It was invented and became popular in the 1980’s.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For reading we looked over a book called Do the Robot. The robot is a type of dance that was first introduced in 1980’s. All your movements should be jerky, with no fluid movements at all.. When moving around at one point you need to freeze in position and be rigid.

Facts we found interesting were that a strong and clear beat is require. How you can put all the moves together to make the dance and you don’t show emotion when doing the dance. Lastt interesting fact was that you experiment with telling a story in your dance. E.g: Is your robot cooking a cake, walking a dog, or having a shower.

We found this activity fun because we attempted doing the robot dance. By reading the steps in the text we looked like good robot dancers.

Current Events | International

L.I: To find the important information in a current event
L.I: To identify author’s purpose

For Reading we did Current events. This time we looked over events around the world. I researched about Melbourne going back to lockdown. This was causes because someone tested positive for Covid and then it spreaded causing a outbreak. James Merlino announced the lockdown on June 2nd 2021.

What I learnt from this article is that how different places are dealing with covid. I found this activity interesting because I haven't heard anything major about Covid.

Incredible Inverterbrates

 L.I: To summarise a text

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary

Invertebrates are animals with no backbone. They vary in size, shape and color. 95 to 99 percent of all animals species on Earth are invertebrates.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For reading (with Mrs Linda) we read the text of Incredible Invertebrates. Invertebrates are animals that have no back bones. Each Invertebrate has different groups. The six main groups are:

  • Molluscs
  • Arachnids
  • Insects
  • Crustaceans
  • Myriapods
  • Annelids
Facts that we found interesting were that Myriapods can grow upto 750 legs. Also earthworms make the better for growing. Lastly fleas are also called minibeasts because their small and they bite several times and cause itchiness. We found this activity interesting and fun because we learnt more facts about invertebrates.

Science Exploration | Science Tech

L.I: To explore the use of science equipments.

For Tech the Year 7's looked over science equipments. Our topic for our science lesson was Science Exploration. Our first task was to look around the lab and look for objects that the lab has but Panmure Bridge school doesn't. Our second task was to list down 20 science equipment. Our final task was to pour 40 metre litres(ml) into a beaker and then pour it into a measuring cylinder. We also used a dropper and dropped 3 metre litres (ml) into the measuring cylinder to make the measurment 43 metre litres (ml).

Book Week

L.I: To celebrate reading

This week is book week where people celebrate reading. Panmure Bridge school celebrate book week by dressing up as a character in a book. Our teachers talked to us about their favourite books. We all celebrated book week in the assembly. Each class walked up the stage showing off their amazing costumes. After assembly LS2 took room 4 and room 6 and read with them. I found book week very fun because we got to see everyone amazing costumes.

Samoan Language Week

L.I: To pay it forward by creating screencastify that teaches others how to use Samoan words and phrases

This week is Samoan Language Week - Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa. The theme for 2021 is Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manuia le anofale which means strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive. In LS2 we have decided to value the measina of the language by creating a screencastify that teaches others how to use Samoan words and phrases.

My partner and I chose to pay it forward by showing others how to say the months of the year in Samoan.

I found this challenge quite easy. I found it quite easy because I am Samoan so I have this type of knowledge in my head. I also found it fun because I got to give my own Samoan knowledge to people.

Stan Walker | Silver Attitude

L.I: To find a celebrity that had difficulties but is still positive

For one of my silver attitude activites I created a DLO about a celebrity who faced difficulties but has a positive attitude. The celebrity I chose was Stan Walker. Stan Walker was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2017. A little information about Stan walker, Stan Walker is a singer. He is one of the most popular singers in New Zealand. Stan walker has won 5 New Zealand music award.

Stan Walker was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The stomach cancer he got was a rare type of stomach cancer. Its called CDH1. CDH1 is a gene mutation. This type of cancer was the reason why 25 family members of the Stan Walker family died.

I found this activity fun and really interesting. I found the new facts I found about Stan Walker interesting and I had fun researching them. This activity made me know more about his personal life.

Cinquain Poem

L.I: To write a cinquain poem to describe a sports star

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

I enjoyed this activity because I got to use words i've never heard before. The meaning behind some of the words are powerful thats what I liked about my poem.

My Reading Pathway

L.I: To show my personal journey through books

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities. One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favourite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading because I learn new words which helped me expand my vocabulary. I also like the journey's that the main characters go on.

Technological Practices

L.I: To use techonological practices process to design a toy.
For Mrs Fisi’iahi’s Inquiry lesson, we were focusing on the three last technological processes. They were: build, test and evaluate. We used the required materials in order to build the AUV rover. After this, we tested and compared each group’s rover to see which group was able to scramble across the floor the furthest. Evaluating our results was the last step.

I found this activity interesting because we found ways to create the rover without using videos and I got excited once we finished our project.

Current Events

L.I: To find the information in a current event

L.I: To identify the author's purpose

This week for reading we looked at current events. Current events are events that have happened recently. For our activity we had to find information about current events in New Zealand or events that are happening around the world that the news is telling us about. We looked on the Kiwikids News website to find some events. I researched about a 43 million year old whale that was discovered by paleontologists.  A fellow paleontologist Oliver Lambert was in this project. He was the only known paleontologist in this discovery.

They discovered the whale bones in sand. They found these pieces in Playa Media Luna, Peru. They discovered this in 2019, 4th of April. We don't know how they found it but I read that some of the bones of the four legged whale were excavated and taken to a lab so scientists could research it.

I found this activity interesting because I was really shocked because I didn't know that a four legged whale creature stepped foot on this earth.

Football Interschool

L.I: To represent my school at the football interschool

On wednesday half of LS2 and other PBS student when to Madills Farm to play football. When we arrivied to Madills Farm we saw other schools that we knew we were going to face soon. My first game was against stone fields. Although the game was very fun we lost 1-0. Our next game was against Glenbrae. We had heaps of fun and they were quite tough but we ended up with a draw. Our third game was against Sylvia. They did put up a good game but we won 1-0. Our fourth game was against Panmur District. We both had similar skills but we came out on top with 1-0. Our final game was against the other group of Panmure bridge. We demolished them and the points were 3-1.

At the end of each game we payed respect to the other team. We had heaps of fun and we were happy and proud about the result that the other team had. Special thanks to Mr Ogilvie for orginizing our team and coaching us. Another thanks to Mr Pao and the other parents for supervising my team and the other teams throughout the day.

Identify, Investigate and Design

L.I: To identify, investigate and design a model of a rover

The three technological practices were identify, investigate and design. When doing these technological practices, we need to make sure we are doing it properly for a proper trial and error project. Identify means to observe the opening problem. Investigating means to research how to solve the problem or research how to use materials for the model. Design means to draw or create a blueprint/sketch of your model. These three practices help you to build an end product of your model. Our group enjoyed looking into these practices and worked together as a group to come up with a design.

ASB Get Wise

L.I: To learn how to spend money wisely

LS2 had lessons on how to spend money wisely. Our instructor Marlon taught us how to use money by playing a game. In the game we have a $1800 budget for trip to Fiji. The passports cost $200 dollars. The plane tickets cost around $500 - $800. The $500 dollar plane ticket take us to a part of the plane where theres nothing to do and we have to sit in a uncomfortable spot. The $800 dollar plane ticket takes us to the first class.

The hotel cost around 200 - 500. The 200 dollar one leads us to a motel with no air conditioner, uncomfortable bed and a fan to keep us cool. The travel insurance was for $300 dollars, we could use it but our group didn't. We had 3 activites. The first activity is surfing which cost $100 dollars. The second activity is snorkling which cost $200 dollars and the third actvities is sky diving which is $300 dollars. Our group paid for two sky diving passes.

Near the end Marlon said that the food we ate gave us food posioning. We went to the hospital and the hospital bill was around $2000 dollars. We had to roll a dice to see if we have to pay for it. If we rolled on 5 or 6 we were safe. If we rolled on any of the numbers lower then we have to pay them that amount. We were left with $100 dollars at the end. At the end we had fun points. The activites gave us 12 points in total but since my group paid for two sky diving activties we got 24 poitns. I found this activity really interesting and fun because I had a new understanding on how to spend money wisely.

Moment in Time

LI: To use the language features and structure of published poem to help use write our own poem

We looked at the language features and structure of a poem called ‘A Moment in Time’ and used our experiences from camp to follow the structure and collaboratively create our own moment in time poem. To describe what we heard, what we saw, how we felt and what we wondered we used our senses, adjectives and adverbs. Ajectives are words that describe things. Adverbs are words that describe actions.

I found this activity intresting because the way out group created some lines for our poem.

Cockroaches: Born Survivors

L.I: To summarise and understand a text

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Summary

Cockroaches detect danger by using their cerci and wind sensors. They are survivors because the use of their special sensors help them avoid many predators.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

This week we read and discussed a non fiction text called Cockroaches: Born Survivors. This text is about information of a cockroach but it’s mainly about how a cockroach survives.

For our activity we had to find 20 important words and choose 6 most important words. Then we put those 6 most important words into a summary.

Cockroaches have two long spiked tails called Cerci. The cockroaches also like to hang around dark and warm places until it's night. The characteristics of a cockroach is that they are really fast and they can detect danger by their wind sensors.

An interesting fact that our group found out about cockroaches is the fact that cockroaches have been on Earth for over 300 millio years.

We found this activity interesting because we learnt many different things about cockroaches and had fun when learning.

Bullies

L.I: To investigate on the topics of cyber and physical bullying

One of our care award challenge required us to make a DLO about cyberbullying and physical bullying. Cyberbullying can cause sending embarrassing messages, sending inappropriate messages and harassing a person with another account. Cyberbullying can affect a person mental health. It can also cause suicide thoughts.

Physical bullying can include constantly picking on a certain person for no apparent reason. Bullying can affect one's health and lifespan which is very bad for the person. Both kinds of bullying can cause suicidal thoughts.

Key Compentencies

L.I: To compare the Key Compentencies

Before we went to camp our challenge was to think about when we might use the Key Competencies as we faced the challenges. When we came back from camp we looked at this and compared how we thought we would use the Key Competencies and how we actually used them.

Duffy Assembly

For todays assembly it was a special Duffy assembly. Our duffy role model was Marc Duffy. Marc told a story about his hard life. It all started when he didn't know he could read. He would only read from the right side to left side. Due to his reading ability he would get bullied by other students and soon move out of school. He wen't to prison and during his time there he learnt how to read properly. Soon he would get a job and become successful. After his story on how he became successful we got our duffy books. This was a very cool experience, I love his story.

Food tech

L.I: To understand the process of cooking

For food tech the year 7's created pizza. Mrs Hika gave us an instruction to get our materials and ingredients.  The ingredients we got were spinach, red onion, mushroom, red pepper, tomato sauce, cheese, bacon and a pizza base.

First I layed out the sauce and spread it around our pizza base. Next Kruse (Cooking group member) diced the red onion and the red pepper. He also sliced the mushrooms. After that Kruse put the spinach on top of the pizza base. He then put the diced red onion and red pepper. Then Kingston (Cooking group member) diced the bacon and put it on the pizza. Finally we sprinkled the cheese on the pizza and then the pizza was put into the oven.

When the pizza came out of the over we slid the pizza on to our chopping board and sliced it. We splited it and we starting eating it. The pizza was delicous and I felt like a professinal cooker. I would love to make pizza for my family because I think my parents would love the pizza that I make.

Brochure

L.I: To a collabrative brochure that tells others why Kokako Lodge is a great place to go on camp

Over the last week, the students in LS2 have challenged themselves while participating in archery, high ropes, kayaking, raft building, camp cooking, pancake race and team building/orienteering.

Our group worked together to create a brochure that gives information and shows readers why Kokako Lodge is an amazing area to go camping.

We talked about the cabins, catering and the activities. The cabins are spacious and can hold up to 12 or 14 people per cabin. There is a large kitchen in the Kokako Lodge area and you can choose whether you would like to self-cater or receive food from caterers.

I found this activity enjoyable because it required us to work as a team.

Camp Collage

L.I: To create a collage of your camp highlights

In this activity we had to create a collage using the photos at camp. What I like about this photos is that they remind of some cool times like the high beam photos. I remember going up the ladder really fast and every one was impress. Also the camp concert photos, I was really nervous saying my joke but I came out happy and laughed at it. The sleeping photo is kind of embarrasing for me because I geuinly don't like photos of me sleeping. Finally the cabin photo, I had fun times hanging out with everyone in my cabin. Camp was a really fun experience.

I found this activity fun because this reminded me about so many moments that happen at camp.

5 minute of camp

L.I: To recount a 5 minute snapshot of one experience you had at camp

We didn't expect this...
As me and my performance group got ready I was stressing out about how people would react. Me and the boys went to the Stuart room with the rest of the class to see the camp show.

As me and my group sat down, David and Mahdi (The hosts) introduced the Camp Concert of 2021. Everyone was waiting on who was going to go first. My group was hoping we wouldn’t go first but no. David put us first to perform. Our group was shocked and annoyed. We were all stressed because we knew we wouldn’t get a really big reaction considering our jokes weren't the funniest. But as we walked up everybody started clapping and cheering us up which gave me a little bit of confidence.

When we went up we went and said our jokes but we were laughing because before we started performing Azatulah (a group member) said a funny joke that made us laugh. Throughout the whole performance we were laughing. When it was my turn to say my joke I was extremely nervous. I thought that no one would laugh at my joke but in reality I was just laughing and when I said my joke everybody else was laughing. We really didn’t expect everyone else to laugh but we were proud that we stood up and performed it like it was nothing.

The other performances were amazing, my personal favourite was the Poly boys. They mixed the Tongan Sipi tau, the Samoan Siva tau and the Fijian Cibi. I also liked the Chakos performance. I liked the part where they started solo dancing in the middle of the circle. At the end David and Mahdi told everyone the places. Everyone was curious about which place they would come in. Everyone was nervous, everyone was excited to know and then... the places were revealed. To everybody surprise 3 groups came first. It was the Poly boys, Sulia solo dance and Poe vs Doe. Our group came second. Which we were proud of but like I said earlier we didn’t expect a big reaction from everyone and we definitely didn’t expect the place we would be in.

Everybody did a good job performing. My group and I are proud of what place we came in. It was a fun time and I like the interaction between the performers and the audience during the Poe vs Doe performance. At the end we got lollipops and chocolate. It was a good treat.

For this activity we had around 5 minutes to write about an activity or event that happened at camp. I wrote my recount about the Camp Concert. Basically what happened is that we got into these groups that we made up. In our groups we have to come up with an act. Our act was dry jokes. Basically just jokes that are not funny. We also came up with a name. Our name was MC Stand up. We had around 2 weeks to get ready and when the day came we had to perform it. Our group came second and 3 groups came first. All the perfomances were great.

Tech Reflect | Food

L.I: To understand the process of cooking

For Food Tech we made Sagwala curry. Our first was to get our utensils. After getting our materials we went to get our ingredients. First we got the spinach. Then we got the tomato and the spices. Finally we got the onions and garlic.

First we peel the onions and peel the garlic. Then we dice the onion and garlic. We then get the spinach and cut it. After all that we poor the tomato into a measuring cup and the spices into one measuring cup. Next we put the garlic and onion into the pot. We then poor oil and water. We turn on our stove and we start stirring.

While stirring we poor in water and we put in the spinach. After that we keep on stirring the ingredients until the spinach sucks up all the moist. After finishing our curry we put rice and yogurt in our containers.

The curry was alright. I didn't really like the yogurt. The sour cream taste kind of ruined the taste of the curry. Overall I think my group and I did a good job creating the curry.

Tech Reflect

L.I: To understand the process of cooking

The Year 7's created hot cakes for food Tech. My group gather our ingredients and utensil. One person in out group had to get 1 cup of flour and 1 Tea spoon of baking powder. Another person gets 3 quarters of milk and they have to crack 2 eggs to get the egg whites. The third person has to get the bananas and mash it up.

I mixed the flour and baking powder. Spelman whisked the eggs and the milk. Farzana grabbed all the mashed bananas and the eggs and milk into the big bowl with the flour and baking powder. After mixing it all up I poured the oil onto the pan.

We started pouring the mixture onto the pan. After waiting one minute we flipped the cake and it turned out good. We made about 13 hot cakes and spilt it between us. We topped it of with vanilla ice cream and cranberry sauce. When we ate it, it tasted so delicious.

This is the best thing I've ever made currently. To be honest I would like to create more at home. I had fun creating hot cakes.

PB4L Bus

L.I: To show examples on how to behave on the bus

This week for PB4L we learnt about the things we should not do while riding a bus, being well behaved on the bus is important because then you are showing respect to the driver and the other people on the bus. Our tak was to create a DLO show the rule you should follow on the bus, some examples are sitting properly, thanking the bus driver, staying in your seat during the bus ride.

For the ancestors

L.I: To understand the reciprocal reading process

Our activity for reading was summarising a text. The text is called For the Ancestors. It's about a girl named Matalena who wanted to carry on her fathers legacy by proving that she a good leader. To show that she was a leader she needed to get a tattoo. In Samoa the word for Tattoo is Tatau. Matalena wanted to get a Tatau called the Malu. A Malu is a traditional Samoan Tatau that is only used for females. The Malu is supposed to represent their strength, caring and softness. In the story Matalena avoided getting a Tatau because she was nervous. Later in her life she started to regret not having a Malu. She then went to get one because her father died and she wanted to carry on his legacy.

Throughout the book our group (Kea and Kakapo) grabbed keywords from the book and put it on a piece of paper. After that we put 20 words from our keyword list and put it on our DLO. Then we had to choose 6 important words out of the 20 words. Finally we made sentences out of our 6 words. Those 6 sentences basically summed up the book.

This activity was quite fun because I could relate to some of the things in the book because I'm Samoan. I think me and my group did a good job with the summarising.

Giant Pandas

L.I: To use our smart searching skills to find information about the giant panda

Our activity for today was researching about Giant pandas. We created paragraphs to inform interesting facts and things about giant pandas. In our task we had to write down information about pandas on a note sheet. After writing down our information we wrote down paragraphs. The paragraphs was basically used to sum up our information that we wrote down on our note sheet. After writing everything down we created a DLO which had all the information about Giant pandas. We found this activity interesting and also gave us the opportunity to find out more about Giant Pandas and how they survive in the wilderly. One interesting fact I learnt about Giant pandas is that they consume around 44lb (20kgs) of bamboo.

Virtual Adventure

L.I: To plan a virtual trip around the world

Today I did an activity. This activity is called Virtual adventure. Basically what we had to do was find places that we like to go to but it can only be a capital city. The three places I would like to visit is Tokyo which is the capital of japan. I would love to visit there for their food. I would also like to visit Nuku'alofa which is the capital of tonga. Its know for the kingdom so I would like to visit the kingdom. The final place I would like to visit is Wellington which is the capital of New Zealand. I haven't visited wellington so I would like to visit there for the sea. I would like to sail there. The places were hard to get because some of the places I would like to go are not even the capital city for that country. I enjoyed this task because I got to choose my dream places. The place I want to visit the most is probably tokyo. Tokyo just looks good and I heard the food there is delicous.

Tatau

L.I: To create a DLO that tells others about tatau

Today I did one of the activites that Mrs Anderson put up for us. I did the Tatau challenge. Basically what I had to do in this challenge was research some information about the Tatau. Some things I learnt about the Tatau was that its name was created by two fijian women. The traditional tattoo represents something that they are resepcted for. Some of them are like status, power, honor and pride. Those are only a few but there's more. The samoan people who have no traditonal tattoo's are called telefua/telenoa which means naked. One of the most used tattoo's are called the pe'a. The pe'a is only used on men. Sometimes on younger kids, specifically on kids who started their puberty. The pe'a goes from the waist to the knees. Each section represnts the person who has the Pe'a, their culture and family. The most popular female tattoo is called the Malu. It goes from the upper thighs and the knees below. I enjoyed this task because I got to learn more about my own culture and the origin of the Tatau.

Kapa haka trip

L.I: To learn the teachings of our Tupuna and the history of New Zealand's native people and their land.

The LS2 boys went to the Auckland Museum. First we got introduced to the museum and Ngarimu explained the rules of the museum. We then had morning tea. After that we explored the gallery and learnt about the history of some of the carvings. During our time there we were sent to find answers for a quiz we were doing.

The questions were:
  • Name of the mountain the museum sits on
  • Name of the museum in Maori
  • Name of two short weapons
  • Name of two long weapons
  • Name of three different art styles
  • The name of a Waka
  • The two gods that was in front of the waka and back of the waka
  • The name of the marae

We took a lunch break and then we went for an exercise down the field. After that we learnt how to use the taiaha. After learning moves with the taiaha we learnt how to do the haka with the taiaha. These are the answers to the questions.

  • Name of the mountain: Maunga Pukekawa
  • Name of the museum in Maori: Tamaki Paenga Hira
  • Name of two short weapons: Mere, Patiti
  • Name of two long weapons: Tewhatewha, Taiaha
  • Name of three differnet art styles: Ko whai whai, Whakairo, Tukutuku
  • The name of a waka: Te Toki a tapiri
  • The two gods that was in front of the waka and in the back of the waka: Tuma tumatauenga, Tane Matua
  • The name of the marae: Hotunui

I had fun at the museum and I learnt so many things behind the weapons, the waka and the spirits. I also like the taiaha activity we did.

Kawa of care

L.I: Be cybersmart and use our devices to learn, create and share

On this task we had to learn about the Kawa of care. The Kawa of care is basically learning how to take care of your chrome book. One of the things to know about during your training is that you cant eat or drink near your chrome book. This task was very easy and fun.

The qualities of a good leader

L.I: To unpack what leadership looks like

Our task was about defining what a team is, leadership, role model, and responsibility. This was done in a group. Next we wrote down what we think a leader is and then write a paragraph that uses 25 words. We then copied it on to a google drawing so we can explain our words and paragraphs.

Why it is important to be hydrated?

L.I: To understand why staying hydrated is important for our health and for our learning

Hydration means having a lot of water so it can help you cool down, loose your thirst and keep you awake. Dehydration is lacking water. Dehydration can cause dry mouth, dark urine and being tired. During this task I learnt a lot of things between hydration and dehydration.

LS2 Age graph

L.I: To plan and carry out statistical investigations

For our activity we had to create a graph on a topic. Azatulah and I went around our class to find 15 different people. We asked them how old they were. The results were that there were 2 people out of 15 were 10, 7 people out of 15 were 11 and 6 people out of 15 were 12.

After gathering out data were created. We used a pie chart to find our results. We noticed that almost half of some of the LS2 students are 11, 12 was the second at 40%! We had 2 student that were 10 which was the least amount. Me and Leon predicted that most of the students were 11 which was correct!

Te Tiriti o Waitangi Summary

LI: To learn in fewer words what the text is about

Te Tiriti o Waitangi is a settlement between the Maori and British. This settlement happened because Captain Cook arrived which made the britain come over. When the Britain arrived to New Zealand they planned on adding New Zealand to their empire. But since New Zealand needed protection from the pakeha they agreed to a treaty that would guarantee protection and peace.
